Whenever I speak with someone about raising my own meat one of the first things they will ask is "does it really pay?" I kept track of all my expenses; buying the steer, feed & hay and butchering costs. When it was all said and done we paid approximately $3.60 per pound of meat. Not bad considering that hamburger alone often goes for more than that at the store.
But like everything else I do here at Lil Bitty Farm, I don't do it because I make a lot of money at it, I do it because I enjoy this kind of work and because it gives me great satisfaction knowing that I can produce my own beef, pork and chicken here on my Lil Bitty two and one half acre farm.
