HIS LEGACY
On one hand my Dad was an ordinary guy; on the other hand he was anything but ordinary. He loved God, he loved his wife and family, he loved the local body of believers he worshipped with, he loved life and he loved people in general. The hallmark of his life was that of being faithful and true to God, his family, the church and his business career.
I began this blog by saying that when Dad passed away he "stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ". How do I know that? Because he was a "nice guy" that never hurt anybody? Nope. Because his good deeds outweighed his bad deeds? Not at all. Because he had a "heart of gold"? A resounding NO. I can say with confidence that Dad's in heaven; not because of anything wonderful that he has done but because of something WONDERFUL that HE (Jesus Christ) has done for us. Yes, Dad was not perfect and he knew it. That's why he needed someone else who was perfect to pay for his sins. He needed the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ to pay the price he could not pay. . . as do we all.
And so, this life here on earth really is a matter of life and death. It is a matter of life and death physically (from day to day) and spiritually (for eternity). I hope you know and have experienced the forgiveness and cleansing from sin that my Dad knew through Jesus Christ.
So Dad. . . thanks for everything. Thanks for your ever-consistent example of a man who walked humbly with his God. By God's grace, I'll try and do the same.
Love you! ! And I'll see you a little later on down the road.
